The Benefits of Adult Day Programs for Those with Dementia: A Personal Experience
As a person living with younger onset / early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, I was initially hesitant to attend an adult day program. However, my experience at Town Square in Brink, NJ was pleasantly surprising and gave me a new perspective on the importance of these programs.
Why Adult Day Programs are Perfect for Those with Dementia
The adult day program at Town Square was designed to provide a supportive environment for those with dementia. The staff were professional, empathic, and well-equipped to handle the needs of those with dementia. The program offered a mix of physical and mental exercises, as well as social activities, which created a fun and engaging environment for the clients.
The clients themselves were warm, welcoming, and happy, and I was struck by the sense of community that existed between them. The adult day program allowed them to engage in activities and socialize with others, which helped to improve their mood and overall well-being.
Personal Reflection
I was initially concerned that attending an adult day program would be a sad experience, but the reality was quite different. The atmosphere was uplifting and positive, and I was impressed by the extent of happiness and warmth that the clients extended to each other.
Being a part of the program helped me to better understand the experience of living with Alzheimer’s disease, and it made me feel more connected to the community of those affected by this condition. I hope to use my experience to help others understand the benefits of adult day programs and to spread awareness about the importance of supportive environments for those with dementia.
In conclusion, adult day programs are a perfect solution for those with dementia. They provide a supportive environment, engaging activities, and the opportunity to socialize with others. If you or a loved one is living with dementia, I encourage you to consider an adult day program as a way to improve overall well-being and quality of life.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I think so often people don’t understand how adult days can be beneficial for both the person with dementia and their care partners.
Thank you Lori.
